Patient Load:

First year residents typically are responsible for six patients on general medicine services in July slowly increasing to eight patients by June. The typical patient load in the ICU/CCU is four patients . Limits are in place to control both maximum service size (12) and maximum workups per admitting day (5), to protect first year residents from unreasonable work loads on all services. Second and third year residents typically supervise the care of 8 to 16 in-patients.
